- Description of Incident:

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Pompano Beach District have identified, located, and arrested 33-year-old Maurice Bradwell in connection with a brutal elderly assault and robbery that occurred on a Broward County Transit bus in March.
The horrific attack occurred at approximately 12:39 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, near the 600 block of Southwest 12th Avenue in Pompano Beach. According to witnesses, the elderly victim was sitting alone quietly on the bus when Bradwell walked up to the victim, stood in a pre-attack posture, and began cursing at the elderly passenger for unknown reasons.
Due to Bradwell’s aggressive behavior, detectives say the transit driver stopped the bus and asked the passengers to exit. The victim then approached the bus driver to ask why the bus was stopped, and that’s when detectives say, without warning, Bradwell attacked the victim and stole his phone.
According to investigators, the assault knocked the victim’s cellphone out of his left hand and rendered the victim unconscious. Detectives say that as soon as the victim hit the floor, Bradwell grabbed the victim’s cellphone and exited the bus.
BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue were notified to respond. On scene, emergency crews located the victim suffering from multiple injuries, and he was transported to Broward Health North by PBFR for treatment.
Bradwell was taken into custody on Friday, July 11, near the 200 block of North Powerline Road in Pompano Beach. He faces one count of aggravated battery on a person over 65 years of age and one count of aggravated robbery.
Detectives say Bradwell’s apprehension was partly due to help from the public. On Monday, July 7, investigators released still images of the incident and received multiple Broward Crime Stoppers tips identifying Bradwell as the subject involved.
