Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach, FL-Seems I may not have explained the importance of why I want to know why BSO and BSFR were at “Berkshire A” last night. My Facebook post left readers asking why.

While this is an opinion post. Deerfield-News.com has requested from BSO an official public records request about this call.

Dear Howard Levy:

The Broward Sheriff’s Office received a public records request from you on July 11, 2025, seeking the following:

BSO deputies in 2 marked cars, along with a BSFR unit, entered Berkshire A Parking lot. A Firefighter got out and then back into the rescue unit, all three vehicles left the parking lot and headed elsewhere. Please send the incident report for this and subsequent calls in Century Village at 1.05 AM on 7-11-2025.

In a week where Sheriff Tony has terminated our BSO and BSFR contracts.Giving the city the official 90-day notice. The city is now in a position to have its own Police and Fire rescue departments again.

I have had several conversations and numerous emails regarding BSO deputies and BSFR responding to calls and arriving at the incorrect location.

I support our deputies and BSFR firefighters; they have saved the lives of family members of mine.

The point is that contracting out to BSO has given us many officers and firefighters who are unfamiliar with this city and its streets. When seconds matter, all those who work for BSO and BSFR must be familiar with our roads, including those within Century Village.

This is just one advantage of having our own officers and firefighters AGAIN, the city would control the hiring and firing of deputies and firefighters as they should. Being familiar with all of our streets and neighborhoods would be a prerequisite.

If you have never seen a BSFR fire truck driving around looking for addresses as I have, maybe you would be concerned too.

Time to bring the police and fire departments back to City Hall.
