Deerfield-News. Deerfield Beach, FL- The Alligator Alcatraz detention facility proposed by Governor Ron DeSantis and new Attorney General James Uthmeier will cost an estimated $450 million per year to operate.
Under Governor DeSantis, Florida has been aggressive in immigration enforcement. Many say the new project is just the Governor planning for his next run at the Presidency.
Does Florida need to have a facility in the middle of the Everglades to detain immigrants?
Many environmentalists think not. There are already pending lawsuits to stop the construction from continuing.
Protestors took to the streets yesterday with their objections to “ALLIGATOR ALCATRAZ”.
Hundreds of protestors were on U.S 41, the Tamiami Trail, as trucks and dump trucks were passing by hauling materials for the new project.
I do not believe the late great Marjory Stoneman Douglas would approve either.
The Governor and his new idea have brought in a new wave of cash for the GOP coffers.
DeSantis claims the federal government will reimburse Florida the $ 450 million dollars every year that it will cost.
