Deerfield-News,com Deerfield Beach, Deerfield Beach is now in the transition period for our Police and Fire Rescue services,
Sheriff Gregory Tony exercised the 90-day cancellation clause, which ran through 9-30-2025. BSO, as per the contract, Sheriff Tony wanted to modify unilaterally, must continue to provide both police and fire services to Deerfield Beach for two years.
Deerfield Beach is more than capable of forming its own Deerfield Beach Police Department and Fire Rescue Departments.
Deerfield-News believes forming our own Police and Fire Rescue services again is the best option. Sheriff Tony did not honor the contract that was in effect, which makes it unlikely that he would honor a new one.
Folks’ deal is a deal, and a contract is a contract. The County Sheriff should not strong-arm the city of Deerfield Beach.

City of Deerfield Beach Officially Enters Transition Period for Public Safety Services
|
|
| The City of Deerfield Beach has officially entered its transition period for public safety services, effective October 1, 2025. This step ensures that the City will continue to receive law enforcement services from the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) for up to 24 months while City officials carefully review all options for both police and fire services moving forward.
Deerfield Beach has proudly partnered with BSO, and the City remains deeply grateful for the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office who have served our residents with professionalism and dedication. That longstanding relationship is a point of pride for the City, and this transition does not diminish the City’s respect or appreciation for those law enforcement and fire personnel who have served our community.
The current dispute stems from the City’s decision to honor its contractual obligations and uphold its budgetary caps. Deerfield Beach refused to break its own contract or violate its financial commitments, and as a result, the City was placed on the path of evaluating new options for public safety services.
City leaders are approaching this moment with optimism and resolve. Since 2020, Deerfield Beach has experienced significant population growth and an increase in new opportunities for business, investment, and community enrichment. These changes underscore the importance of ensuring the City’s public safety model is well-positioned to serve residents for decades to come.
As part of this process, the City is excited to engage the community directly. Several community forums will be held in November, where residents will have the opportunity to review data, ask questions, and share their perspectives. This collaborative approach will help chart the best path forward for the City and ensure that public safety services continue to meet the high expectations of the people of Deerfield Beach.
“We are committed to a thoughtful, transparent process that respects our community’s voice while safeguarding the future of our City,” said Mayor Todd Drosky. “This transition is not just about change-it’s about building on our strengths and ensuring Deerfield Beach remains a safe, vibrant, and welcoming place for all.”
