Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating a fatal crash that killed a man last Sunday in Deerfield Beach.
At approximately 11:42 a.m., on March 23, Broward County Regional Communications received a call reporting a crash with injuries near Southwest 10th Street and Waterways Boulevard. Broward Sheriff’s Office district deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. On scene, deputies learned a crash occurred involving a motorcycle and a vehicle. BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit detectives responded to investigate.
According to the preliminary investigation, the motorcyclist was riding a 2022 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R motorcycle travelling eastbound on Southwest 10th Street approaching Waterways Boulevard. Meanwhile, Yvette Araujo, the driver of a 2018 Subaru Forrester, stopped westbound at the intersection of Waterways Boulevard, preparing to make a left turn southbound onto Waterways Boulevard.
Investigators say as the Subaru proceeded to make a left turn; the vehicle crossed in front of the Kawasaki.
Detectives say the Kawasaki struck the Subaru on the passenger side. The motorcyclist was ejected into the front passenger compartment of the Subaru prior to the vehicle rolling over. Paramedics pronounced the motorcyclist deceased on scene. Emergency personnel transported the driver of the Subaru to a local hospital with minor injuries.
