The guy looked legit — wearing an Amazon vest with a box in one hand and a cellphone in the other, he appeared ready to make and record a delivery at a Broward County home. But as that unsuspecting resident soon learned, the image on her Ring camera captured not a delivery but a crime in progress.
Fortunately, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Burglary Apprehension Team (B.A.T.) quickly swooped in to scoop up this phony delivery guy and caught him with the stolen merchandise – an iPhone 15 Pro – in his car.
BSO’s B.A.T. detectives say on Tuesday, Aug. 13, they located the suspect’s car, a 2021 blue Honda Accord, which was the suspected vehicle in a recent residential burglary in Parkland. As detectives surveilled the car, they saw the suspect, later identified as Stanly Sabino Pimentel, pull into a Deerfield Beach community, park in front of a home and exit dressed as an Amazon delivery person. Detectives say he then carried out the aforementioned crime.
A short time later, detectives took Pimentel into custody. He was arrested on several charges, including occupied residential burglary, grand theft, possession of a firearm during the commission of a second-degree felony and tag obstruction. Detectives are continuing to investigate Pimentel related to other similar crimes in Broward County.
Investigators say there are several steps individuals can take to avoid becoming a victim of package thieves. Investigators advise having your items shipped to your office, scheduling a delivery for a time that you’ll be at home, using a secure drop-off site provided by the delivery company or asking a neighbor to pick up your packages if you’re not at home.
