Date: Oct. 5, 2018
Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Burglary Apprehension Team (BAT) and the Deerfield Beach Criminal Investigations Unit launched an investigation in response to a rash of residential burglaries in the city. On October 3, investigators were able to arrest four males. Dewontres McCray, Willie Florence, Lesean Mountain and Jacobi Denmonte are now facing charges for armed burglary, grand theft, possession of burglary tools, possession of cannabis and criminal mischief.
BSO’s BAT, in collaboration with the South Florida Task Force, Fort Lauderdale’s Rapid Offender Control Unit (ROC), Palm Beach County’s South Florida Task Force and Coral Springs’ Burglary Enforcement and Reduction (BEAR) Unit, conducted surveillance on a Nissan Altima seen driving in and out of several neighborhoods throughout the tri-county area.
BAT detectives observed Florence, Mountain and Denmonte break into a single-family residence while in Miami. All three suspects were taken into custody without incident. A semi-automatic handgun was recovered from their car.
BAT detectives then responded to Deerfield Beach and assisted the South Florida Task Force with surveillance on a BMW. McCray was observed parking in the driveway of a residence in Deerfield Beach. He entered the residence through the front door and exited the residence after a couple minutes. BAT detectives were able to take him into custody without incident.
