Description of Incident:
A Good Samaritan was fatally shot after he stepped in to stop an elderly man from being verbally abused. Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are investigating.

Just after 9 a.m. Sept 22, BSO responded to reports of shots fired at the Kwik Stop, 5551 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd. in Pembroke Park. Philip Antonino was walking back to his place of work when he saw something he couldn’t let slide. A man was berating an elderly homeless man who was cutting the grass in the field adjacent to the convenience store. Antonino stepped in and told the man to back off. Moments after their first words, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot Antonino multiple times.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported Antonino to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

The suspect fled the scene on foot traveling northbound on West 56th Avenue. Homicide detectives describe the suspect as a black male. He has a thin build and a dark complexion, possibly in his 30s and approximately 5 foot 8 inches tall. He is bald and was clean-shaven.
