Deerfield-News. com-Deerfield Beach, Fl-Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony and his actions of terminating BSO’s contract for Police and Fire Services for Deerfield Beach were a huge wake-up call. How does the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in Broward County unilaterally terminate a contract and then expect our city leaders to enter into a new contract with him and BSO?

Sheriff Tony has summarily dismissed a contract, which is a legally binding document. Again, I ask Sheriff Tony to tell ANY or all Broward County circuit court judges that contracts mean nothing.
A DEAL IS A DEAL A CONTRACT IS A CONTRACT.
THE NEXT COMMISSION MEETING IS JANUARY 6TH, AND THE FOLLOWING MEETING WILL BE JANUARY 20 AND INVOLVE OUR CITY LEADERS VOTING ON THIS ISSUE.
As a result of Sheriff Tony’s actions, he, in my opinion, has left our Mayor and 4 City Commissioners in a position where they must vote to leave BSO and re-form the Deerfield Beach Police and Deerfield Beach Fire Rescue Departments again. We had done it for 70 Years and now must do it again.
Look at our neighbors, Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Delray Beach, and more, all run and have control of their police departments, not a Sheriff who lacks integrity for not honoring a contract and is in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
The residents of our city deserve to have our city leaders be in control of these two most important services.
Sheriffs are in charge of the courthouse and jails, and provide services to the Unincorporated parts of Broward County. Contracting for police and fire services is nothing more than a business to generate revenue for Sheriff Tony. Deerfield Beach is a customer who he just spat on.
No one questions the dedicated, hard working Deputies and Firefighters that work for the agency. Sheriff Greagory Tony and his manner of disregarding The Contact with Deerfield Beach are the issue.
The best analogy for what we have is how Mayor Drosky has explained it as a “DIVORCE”.

And Sheriff Tony was the moving party filing the papers by cancellation of our contract.
Deerfield Beach has about 21 months where BSO must provide services. Our mayor and Commissioner in my opinion, have a duty and obligation to vote no to BSO. Our city manager, Rodney Brimlow, is a retired BSO Captain and the former Chief of BSO’s Deerfield Beach District Office.
Contrary to what some say, I believe many BSO Deputies and Firefighters would gladly come to work for the newly reformed Deerfield Beach Police Department and Deerfield Beach Fire Rescue. Deerfield Beach will pay the competitive going rates that our Police and Firefighters deserve.
I believe we will be better off in the long run, having our city leaders be in control of our Police and Fire departments. We all understand change is not easy, but in this case its a must.
Mayor Drosky and our four city commissioners must do the right thing and vote not to BSO. We need three votes, that’s all. Contact the Mayor and your district Commissioner and urge them to vote for the leaving of BSO.
