Deerfield-News.com-Deerfiel Beach, Fl-This week we started videoing Traffic Tuesday and Traffic Thursday. We began inside Century Village East. First on Century Boulevard and Berkshire, then today on West Drive and Newport, at a three-way stop. Tuesday was particularly bad due to the high number of drivers, and it was 6 am. Today, Thursday, at about 4.45 to 505 PM on West Drive, it was worse. Stop signs have become optional for villagers and some contractors. Just blatantly running through them as if they were not there.
THIS IS A THREE-WAY STOP ALL WITH STOP SIGNS..JUST LOOK AT HOW CENTURY VILLAGE DRIVERS FAIL TO STOP………
I am happy to report that the Broward County Buses did stop and obey the law. For most everyone else in that brief time frame, it was as if the “Stop” sign was not even there.
I did catch it on the video, the CVE bus heading toward the back gate ran right through the sign at about 5.01 just as I was at that corner.
First, CVE drivers, please stop at a stop sign; it’s not a suggestion, it’s the law.
Second, BSO needs to send a few motorcycle units and the personnel in the pickup trucks for a couple of hours over a few days. The word will spread, and the effect will be a positive one for everyone in the community.
As we have written about many times, many drivers in CVE may no longer be fit to drive due to age and physical limitations. Unfortunately, as we have written bout, unless a family member takes away the keys, police are pretty much powerless and can only issue a ticket.
Regarding the lack of both drivers stopping and speeding in a community where most residents are elderly, I am unsure what the rush is.
Yes, like it or not, we will be out on Tuesday and Thursday around the city at other known hot spots, where speeding and trying to beat the light often means running through red lights to get more video.
