Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach, FL-The good news is the One And Only 99Cent Farmers Market is open. Deerfield-News.com reported about ten days ago that when we saw the signs going up that it was coming soon. The free-standing building on Tenth Street and Federal Highway was originally a pharmacy owned by the Rosenblatt family. Then it was quite a few things, a scuba shop, a mattress shop, and more. Rosenblatt’s then sold it to Investments Unlimited, James and Marta Batmasian’s company.

Palm Plaza has a lot of independently owned buildings, like The Cove, and the City of Deerfield Beach owns the parking in The Cove and here at the Palm Plaza lot, but not the abandoned building.
Today, we noticed the following string of posts on our Facebook Group Deerfield Beach, about the abandoned building behind/adjacent to the new Only 99-cent Farmers Market.
For sure, the City of Deerfield Beach is aware of this deteriorated and dilapidated building. Both Mayor Drosky and Commissioner Hudak are followers of this website. Gentlemen, feel free to chime in and let the residents of Deerfield Beach know the whole story.

I have complained to the City and Commissioners several times regarding this unsafe eyesore. It’s unfair to the businesses that surround it. I’m horrified each time I have to drive in that plaza. Here is the response from the city:
In response to the two structures that you mentioned at the Commission meeting on June 3rd the building near SE 10th Street/Federal (980 SE 8th Street) is monitored to ensure that it is properly secured by the City’s Code Compliance Division. The City Attorney has proceeded with foreclosure actions through the proper court to perfect the lien fines running against the property

I will Demolish that at cost if the city will allow me. We are
Atlas Demolition ,we are local and want our city to thrive not fall apart!!
That building has been derelict for ages. It’s hidden just enough that it remains to be “out of sight, out of mind.”

Now that the $.99 farmers market is open a lot more people are seeing this building, including me and it is horrific to see.

Linda Kamm the store parking is so small you have no choice but to park next to this eyesore
I hope the new 99 cent store is going to keep that area around the store clean. I think they already know they’re going to have to get more dumpsters

The city owns the parking lot only in this plaza.

The contract with Calvin Guardino should be terminated. They are useless and extremely expensive.
