FROM OUR BOCA RATON NEWS DESK-

BocaNewsnow.com(registered TM)published by Andrew Colton posted a recent story alleging Boca Raton Police hid traffic deaths and would not release a public records request until he paid them. Mr. Colton certainly covers Boca Raton well with his news blog. The fact he had to use his Amex card to get the records seems to be the beef. According to Colton, it was not the 32 bucks but the fact they hid these traffic fatalities. Colton posts-“Constant requests for the Boca Raton Police Department to routinely release fatal crash information have been denied since Chief Michele Miuccio succeeded Dan Alexander in 2019”

Seems that Colton is insinuating Chief Dan Alexander the Chief of Boca Raton Police before current Chief Michele Miuccio is doing something differently or maybe something he believes may violate Florida’s statute 119 regarding public records.

In full disclosure, before I started Deerfield-News.com in 2014  and lived in Boca Golf and Tennis Club former Chief Dan Alexander and his wife Sandra were my next-door neighbors.

All I can say is I deal with the same Public Information Officer Jessica Desir that Colton does and I have never had any issue obtaining public records requested from Boca Raton. Not only from the Police department but from the city clerk as well.

That said, I also have paid municipalities for public records requests of all kinds including Deerfield Beach. Usually, it is because of the amount of time and labor the custodial agency needs to retrieve the records requested. I have never had a municipality or county not advise me as to the fees associated with a request. If I decide it is too costly for the value of the potential information received I will cancel the request.
