*Firefighters Extinguish Stubborn Fire At Deerfield Beach Recycling Center**
**Deerfield Beach, FL – [Date]** – At approximately 2:30 PM today, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to reports of an explosion at a recycling plant located at
Phot BSFR1342 South Powerline Rd. in the city of Deerfield Beach.
Witnesses at the scene described hearing a loud explosion emanating from behind the business, where a scrap metal pile used for recycling was located. The first arriving fire engine reported seeing heavy, black smoke drifting across Powerline Road, prompting a large deployment of resources from several agencies.
Due to the fire being deep-seated under a large quantity of scrap materials, a commercial excavator was utilized to remove the metal scrap from above the burning area, allowing firefighters to access and extinguish the flames beneath. Fires of this nature can be particularly challenging, as the core of the fire is often difficult to reach.
While the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, preliminary reports suggest that a compressed gas cylinder may have been the source of the explosion. The pressure and weight of the scrap metal above the cylinder may have caused it to rupture, triggering the explosion beneath the pile.
Approximately 60 firefighters responded to the scene. The fire was declared under control within 30 minutes and fully extinguished within 90 minutes. Resources from Coral Springs, Margate, Coconut Creek, and Pompano Beach joined Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue units in the operation.
Thankfully, no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
The incident is a reminder of the hazards present in industrial environments and the importance of rapid and coordinated emergency response efforts.
