Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach, Fl-In a typical insurance company move they ” AIG” are denying benefits to Deputy Bennett’s family. Sheriff Tony had the following to say on a Facebook post.”

David Saffer

“We are committed to helping the Bennett family. We pay thousands of dollars each year for this insurance, and I’m extremely disappointed that AIG is denying this claim. We will exhaust all appeals. I have directed my command staff to review our contract with AIG. We hope as we have further dialogue with AIG, they recognize the global impact in [the] message that they are sending to our first responders.” – Sheriff Gregory Tony

Deputy Shannon Bennett confidently served as an openly gay deputy and used his platform to help bridge the gap between the LGBTQ+ community and law enforcement. ⠀
He never missed the opportunity to walk in the annual Stonewall Parade. ⠀
He was passionate about uniting BSO with the LGBTQ community.⠀
As we near the end of Pride Month, we wanted to once again remember Deputy Bennett.⠀
Because he wanted what we all want and he worked to get it: peace, love, understanding, equality, and acceptance. ⠀
Rest In Peace, Deputy Bennett. Thank you for your service.⠀
Our Take-
The state of Florida needs to step up and pay the claim while it is being litigated and the state can recover later from AIG.
