DEERFIELD-NEWS.COM- Has covered many of the incidents involving Brightline and the fatalities that have occurred. In most cases, it is people unfortunately who have committed “suicide by train” or people trying to beat the gate closing thinking they can cross the tracks before the train comes.

At approximately 3:33 p.m., on Wednesday, July 31, Broward County Regional Communications was notified of a crash involving a train and a pedestrian near the 2900 block of North Dixie Highway in Oakland Park. According to investigators, the collision initially occurred in the city of Wilton Manors. Officer with the Wilton Manors Police Department and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies also responded to assist. On scene, emergency crews learned an individual had been struck. The person was pronounced deceased on scene. At the request of WMPD, BSO’s Crime Scene and Homicide Units will investigate the circumstances surrounding this crash. The investigation continues.
