Dan Herz Discovers Math. It Goes Poorly.

Perennial loser Dan Herz went on Facebook to expose City Manager Rodney Brimlow’s HYPOCRISY. All caps. Because when you’re short on facts, you lean on fonts.

SOMEONE CUE THE COMIC SANS FONT.  STAT.

The scandal? The Deerfield Beach CRA used to pay BSO deputies $45 an hour for off-duty details. Now it’s $74. Ever the spreadsheet vigilante, Herz popped that into his abacus, came out with 64% or 12:01AM, and apparently, close enough for non-government work.

Well Dan, punch in that $8K you tried to saddle us with … for your legal fees.

Here’s what DumbPhuckSki left out.

BSO sets the rate.
The city doesn’t negotiate it.

And there you have it.

The Sheriff’s Office tells you what deputies cost for off-duty details, you fund it or you go fuck yourself without coverage. That’s the system. It has always been the system. It took me thirty seconds to find this out, which is thirty seconds longer than Dan apparently spent before hitting post.

And that $45 number CAPSLOCK-DAN is treating like holy scripture? Almost certainly set years ago, probably by the previous administration — the one Dan used to love.* The “baseline” he’s defending was built by other people. He’s out here protecting a stale number from a regime he’d otherwise never defend.

* Pretty willing to bet Blll Ganz and Burgess Hanson aren’t big fans of old 64%.

Whatever the case, the market didn’t care.

Deputies working off-duty at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International pull around $96 an hour at the Delta terminal. Port Everglades is $80. All over Broward, districts are dangling overtime just to fill regular patrol shifts because everyone is short on bodies and competing for the same deputies.

Also, there’s the DROP, DOUBLE, and TRIPLE … but don’t get me started.

$74 an hour isn’t a raise. It’s the going rate, give or take.

Brimlow had a staffing gap, looked at what deputies could earn somewhere else, and funded the number. The CRA Board reviewed it publicly on October 8, 2024. It’s in the meeting record. Nobody hid anything. This is what boring, functional government looks like when it works.

Back here on the ranch…
Dan, chasing dopamine, fires off conspiracy theories into the Facebook void.
Someone should give him a Wellbutrin script for the hell of it.

Now here’s the part that should embarrass Two Decimal Dan.

He has argued, repeatedly, that Deerfield could never go independent from BSO because the city couldn’t compete for deputies on its own. Can’t attract them. Can’t retain them. The whole pitch is that Deerfield is helpless in the labor market without BSO holding its hand.

Meanwhile, there’s a cadre of BSO firefighters quietly wondering what the ouster means for them — and where they land when the music stops.

So Deerfield pays a competitive rate to keep deputies working a CRA detail.

Also, maybe we need to beef up the Commission security detail, now that Herz has taken to smashing down the place.

And Dan calls it corruption.

Look people, I hunt corruption, I’ve found corruption, I’ve held corruption accountable. I know something about this topic … Dan, in Nanny’s immortal words, doesn’t know the difference between his ass and a hole in the ground.

You don’t get to argue the city can’t compete and then attack it for competing. That’s not a position. That’s just being against whatever Brimlow does and finding the math to match after the fact.

The $45 rate was dead. The market moved. The city kept up.

That’s not hypocrisy, Dunning-Kruger Dan.

That’s competence. I get why it’s hard for you to recognize.
