DETECTIVES SEARCH FOR DRIVER OF PICKUP
INVOLVED IN HIT-AND-RUN
Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide investigators would like to speak to the driver of a 2007 black Ford F-150 pickup that struck and killed a homeless man Sunday night in Pompano Beach.
Around 8:22 p.m. on May 12, detectives say 55-year-old Joseph Duran was walking across the westbound lanes of East Atlantic Boulevard, near the 900 block, when he was struck by the westbound truck. The driver’s side front bumper, fender and headlight assembly struck the pedestrian, projecting his body more than 40 feet away from the point of impact.
Witnesses say that after impact, the driver of the pickup slowed and then accelerated westbound away from the crash.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue pronounced Duran dead at the scene.
Detectives say the suspect vehicle would have damage to the driver’s side front end: the headlight assembly, front bumper and possibly the hood.
