Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach, Fl-The Wawa effect where all of the other gasoline retailers had dropped prices to match Wawa’s is over. Overnight prices on the west side of Deerfield jumped from 2.299 to 2.559 at more than 4 different stations.Local retailers have been feeling the pinch not only on low prices digging into their profits, also convenience store sales have dropped significantly for those nearby Wawa’s.
The long-awaited two Wawa stores are up and running satisfying the folks from up north who follow the brand as if it was a cult.The competition not so much. The Wawa effect has a downside of hurting independently operated stations who sometimes just can not compete.Their sTores need remodeling they are outdated and Wawa is both a Hoagie shop and market that sells gas.Even Murphy which is Walmart’s gas brand has felt the Wawa effect.
So if you did not fill up yesterday expect to be paying from $2.55-2.69 a gallon on both the east and westside soon. AAA says prices may spike as high as $3.00 per gallon.
