Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigation unit are investigating a vehicle versus motorcycle crash that left a man and a juvenile female dead in Deerfield Beach.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 7:22 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 18, near the 1200 block of South Powerline Road. Detectives say 65-year-old Douglas Hall was traveling in a 2025 Nissan Rogue southbound on South Powerline Road. At some point, Hall attempted to make a U-turn to go northbound on Powerline Road. Investigators say that as Hall initiated the U-turn, the rear passenger side of his car was struck by Simon Dias Do Santos, who was traveling on a 2002 Honda CB900F motorcycle northbound.

BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. Santos and a juvenile passenger on the motorcycle, and two passengers in the Rogue, were all transported to an area hospital for treatment. Santos was transported with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced deceased at 7:53 p.m. that day. The juvenile passenger traveling with him was transported in critical condition. She later died as a result of her injuries on Saturday, Oct. 25. The two passengers in the Rogue suffered injuries listed as not life-threatening.

According to investigators, witnesses who were traveling northbound when the crash occurred advised that Santos was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. The witnesses also stated that Hall initiated the U-turn from a distance they did not consider as a threat to them.

Detectives say excessive speed on the part of the motorcycle driver could be a contributing factor to the crash, while driver impairment is not. The investigation continues.
