DEERFIELD BEACH — City officials gathered recently to celebrate AARP Month, honoring an organization dedicated to Americans 50 and older. A worthy cause, and a lovely photo op.
But while studying the commemorative image, this reporter was struck by a revelation of near-municipal importance: Commissioner Dan Shanetzky is a dead ringer for Herman Munster.
The resemblance is uncanny. The stature. The bearing. The quiet dignity of a man who may or may not have been assembled in a laboratory. We’re not saying Shanetzky bolts his neck together each morning before public comment — we’re simply observing that nobody has ever seen him and Fred Gwynne in the same room.
In the interest of fairness and rigorous photojournalism, Deerfield-News conducted a controlled experiment, applying the Munster treatment to everyone present. The results were conclusive. Only one man emerged looking more like himself.
We reached out to Lily Munster for comment. She has not yet responded.
Happy AARP Month, Deerfield Beach. 1313 Mockingbird Lane salutes you.
