Deerfield-News. com-Deerfield Beach, FL-In a matter that should concern every Deerfield Beach resident and business owner. Our duly elected Sheriff Gregory Tony appears to once again not want to honor a contract. Deerfield Beach chose to leave BSO and establish its own police and fire rescue department again because Sheriff Gregory Tony unilaterally canceled the contract between BSO and Deerfield Beach for police and fire services.
The obligation of Sheriff Tony and BSO is to provide continuous service until September 30, 2027, if needed by the city of Deerfield Beach during its transition to Deerfield Beach Police and Deerfield Beach Fire Rescue.
The Sheriff has launched a full-fledged smear campaign online and with full-color brochures mailed to every resident and business in Deerfield Beach. The Sheriff is using “Scare Tactics” and threatening to withdraw services from Deerfield Beach that he and BSO are obligated to provide. Broward’s Sheriff seems to think he can unilaterally modify the now-canceled contract again.He believes he can withdraw services in phases that the contract does not permit. The city of Deerfield Beach has published and republished the contract so all residents and business owners can see that BSO and Sheriff Tony are obligated to perform both police and fire services during the transition, and it is clearly spelled out in the contract.
Sheriff Tony posted “BSO submitted a structured transition plan to the city outlining the responsible restructuring of personnel,resources, and services”.”It will take place in three phases over time ,as services are gradually and responsibly relocated.
What that means is The Not So Good Sheriff is not honoring what he is obligated to honor the contract. In fact, he wants to be a “Bad Breaker Upper”, putting Public safety for Deerfield Beach on the back burner. Something that is not only irresponsible but dangerous.
Sheriff Tony should know better and do better. Protect and Serve should be his first duty and obligation to each resident of Deerfield Beach during the transition. Anything less is unethical and unlawful. To even insinuate what Sheriff Tony is blatantly stating in his published material and online posts should be enough for Governor DeSantis to remove him from office, the same way he did Sheriff Israel.

As we reported earlier last night, the Mayor and City Commission voted 5-0 to retain outside counsel and, if needed, sue Sheriff Tony to enforce the contract.
