Description of Incident:
A Broward Sheriff’s Office sergeant was arrested Wednesday night on multiple domestic violence charges.
According to BSO Special Victims Unit detectives, at approximately 7 p.m. on Jan. 7, Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a domestic disturbance in Pompano Beach. Deputies responded and made contact with Scott Nida and the female victim and learned that a verbal and physical altercation occurred between the two parties. The investigation revealed that during the encounter, Nida physically caused the victim facial and neck injuries.
According to SVU detectives, the victim stated Nida grabbed her arm when she attempted to leave the residence during the verbal altercation. She told detectives he also grabbed her face and neck to the point she felt she could not breathe and pushed her to the ground, dragging her across the lawn. She said when she was able to free herself, she ran toward her vehicle in an attempt to get away. The victim said Nida followed her, pushing her into the passenger seat and drove away until she was able to convince him to let her go. The investigation is ongoing.
Nida was arrested on one count of false imprisonment, one count of domestic battery by strangulation and one count of touch or strike battery. He was booked into the Broward County Main Jail.
“Domestic violence is unacceptable especially from someone who is sworn to uphold the law.” Broward Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony said. “When a sworn member is accused of this type of crime, they are held to the same standards as any member of the public.”
Nida was hired by BSO on Jan. 18, 2005. He is currently on administrative investigative leave without pay.
