Deerfield-News. com-Deerfield Beach, Fl- Since Brightline began providing service in Florida in 2018 it has had the highest amount of deaths per mile in the country of any train. As of this post, there have been 127 deaths caused by either suicide by train, pedestrians crossing train tracks where they shouldn’t or drivers trying to beat the gates of the high-speed rail.
The Federal Railroad Administration reports in 2024 74 people were injured and 41 killed by Brightline trains. Locally Palm Beach County had 14 deaths and Broward County had 8 deaths. Brightline offers service from Miami to Orlando.
Brightline since 2018 has not been found to be at fault in any of the 127 deaths or any accidents that also caused injury. Again as we have written about dozens of times most cases are suicide by train, pedestrians crossing the tracks where they should not be or just stupid drivers many of who are caught on video trying to run the gate before the train arrives and ultimately they pay the price.
