Branhilda Richardson-Knowles Memorial Park Grand Opening

The City of Deerfield Beach is excited to announce the grand opening of the Branhilda Richardson-Knowles Memorial Park and Historic Cemetery that will take place on Saturday, August 24, 2019, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, at 411 SE 2nd Avenue.

Beginning in the late 1800s, this parcel of land served as a cemetery for African-American families who lived and worked in Deerfield Beach, many of whom were originally from the Bahamas. This 3.55-acre parcel is located in the heart of Pioneer Grove and includes three separate parklets, each with a distinct focal piece. The first parklet is a statue of a woman holding a baby to pay tribute to Mrs. Branhilda Richardson-Knowles. The second parklet is the “Tree of Life” monument, inspired by and in memory of those who used these grounds to bury their family and loved ones. The final parklet is the Veteran’s Memorial monument dedicated to the veterans who were buried at this site.

We invite the community to attend the ceremony, take a tour of the park, and enjoy light snacks and refreshments.

Parking will be limited. Guests are encouraged to park at City Hall located at 150 NE 2nd Avenue. Shuttles will begin transporting guests to the park at 8:30 AM.

For additional information, please call Parks and Recreation at (954) 480-4433.
