FL$CK SHERIFF TONY-BROWARD COUNTY WANTS TO LEAVE BSO TOO

Deerfield-News. com-Deerfield Beach, FL-Sheriff Tony canceled the Deerfield Beach contract for police and fire services. The City of Deerfield Beach has since decided to restart the Deerfield Beach Police Department and Deerfield Beach Fire Department. The City of Deerfield Beach is working diligently to accomplish this goal, hiring Police Officers and Fire Fighters and hiring staff, and securing equipment, among other things, for our new departments.

Now it appears, while saving his contract with Pompano Beach for police services for a few more years, the Sheriff is going to lose policing and fire services for Fort Lauderdale Airport and Port Everglades. That is right, Broward County Mayor Bogen and Commissioners are looking for control of Police and Fire services provided by BSO now.

The County Mayor and County Commmisoners seem ready to form two new Police departments to gain control of providing services in the airport and port.

Below is a post from Sheriff Tony complaining about where Broward County leaders seem to be headed.

Tony is apparently not happy that the reason is control and not costs. Below is a list of Broward County leaders

“We have been told the potential transitions of services at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Port Everglades and Fire Rescue are about cost. But the numbers tell a different story.
The Broward County Commission is considering creating two new independent departments at the airport and seaport, and potentially a third for Fire Rescue. That means creating three separate management, administrative and personnel structures, along with additional infrastructure, to perform services that are being provided today by one full-service organization.
The question is simple: What is the purpose?
If creating these new departments does not save money, does not make the public safer and does not improve the quality of service, then taxpayers deserve to know what problem we are trying to solve.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office provides these services today with nationally recognized accreditation, extensive training, specialized resources and a proven record of results.
We should be looking for ways to make government more efficient, not creating additional bureaucracies with duplicated management and administrative structures.
Public safety should be about serving people, not creating more government.
If this isn’t about cost, then what is it about? At this point, I believe the Commission has made its priorities clear.
