Some of us are old enough to remember Deerfield Beach Police Department and Fire Department before the city contracted with BSO for both of those services.
Leaving the city of Deerfield Beach 90 days to either pay up or field our own Police Department and Fire Rescue seems a bit harsh. According to Dan Herz, the guy who ran for Mayor and lost to Mayor Drosky the contract can be terminated by either party with 90 days’ notice.
We are talking about Public Safety and life or death in many cases. As a guy who voted for Sheriff Tony I certainly don’t think our city should be strong-armed by another elected official.
Yes, I know originally Sheriff Gregory Tony was appointed by Governor DeSantis when he removed duly elected Sheriff Israel after the Parkland shootings. But Tony ran in a subsequent election and was voted into office by Broward citizens, including me.
Deerfield-News.com has reached out for comments to both the City of Deerfield Beach, which has responded, as well as the BSO Public Information Officer at Media Relations, who we have also spoken to.
We will have statements/narrative about this subject on Monday.
We will post any further updates as we receive them.
Time for Deerfield Beach to form its own Police and Fire Departments again.
