- Description of Incident:
Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a man and injured two passengers in Pompano Beach.
According to investigators, the crash occurred just after 12 a.m. on April 24, near the 1100 block of East Copans Road. The preliminary investigation revealed Corey Escarment was traveling westbound in a 2004 Toyota Highlander on East Copans Road when the vehicle lost control and struck a tree within the center median. The vehicle was redirected back to the westbound lanes where it came to a final rest.
BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded. Escarment was pronounced deceased on scene. Two adult female passengers inside the vehicle were transported to Broward Health North to be treated for their injuries.
Detectives said the preliminary investigation reveals that excessive speed is considered a factor in the crash. The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
