Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit announce the arrest of 25-year-old Carl Taylor. Investigators say Taylor was arrested on Friday, Feb. 21, in connection with the death of Nathaniel Ursery, who was shot in unincorporated Central Broward on April 6, 2023.

According to investigators, at approximately 2:06 a.m., Thursday, April 6, 2023, BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to reports of a shooting near the 2900 block of Northwest Eighth Court in unincorporated Central Broward. On scene, deputies located Ursery suffering from a single gunshot wound to the neck. Paramedics transported Ursery to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition.

Detectives with BSO’s Crime Scene and Violent Crimes units were notified to investigate; however, Ursery succumbed to his injuries approximately 23 days later, and the case was transferred to BSO’s Homicide Unit.

Through investigative methods, detectives identified Taylor as the shooter, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Investigators with BSO’s V.I.P.E.R. (Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) unit took Taylor into custody on Friday, Feb. 21. He faces one count of first-degree murder with a firearm.
