Description of Incident:
A Lighthouse Point man is dead following a crash that occurred early Monday morning in Pompano Beach. Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
According to detectives, shortly after midnight on Monday, May 14, BSO Pompano Beach District deputies responded to 500 West Sample Road in reference to a vehicle crash. The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2004 GMC Yukon, Amari Ifeadi, was traveling westbound on West Sample Road when he made an improper left turn at Northwest Fifth Avenue. The driver turned into the path of a 2014 Yamaha XV1900 Roadliner motorcycle, driven by Jesse Leidenfrost, which was heading eastbound on West Sample Road in the middle lane.
Paramedics with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported the motorcyclist to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Following the crash, the driver and passenger in the Yukon fled on foot. With the assistance of BSO K-9 and Aviation, BSO deputies located Ifeadi and a juvenile male nearby.
Excessive speed on the part of the motorcyclist is not considered a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
