Deerfeld-News. com-Deerfield Beach, Fl-After stating in New Hampshire just a few weeks ago that “Recreational Marijuana” would be on the ballot, Governor DeSantis seems to be raising questions.
Florida’s number one seller of marijuana is Trulieve who has invested over 35 million dollars seeking to get recreational marijuana on the 2024 Florida ballot. The issue is in Florida’s Supreme Court after Florida’s Attorney General filed a suit questioning the language. The Court’s ruling can come any day.
Florida which now has medical marijuana sold by 22 licensed Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers operates over 620 retail dispensaries and grows and distributes that medical cannabis to those same 620+ stores. They call it “vertical integration” “seed to sale” and although it may have created an oligopoly for the current 22 license holders they seem to be running on one of the best medical marijuana programs in the country.
Deerfield Beach currently has nine marijuana dispensaries.
The current 22 license holders are listed below from the State of Florida’s OMMU who administer the medical cannabis laws and licenses. The 22 MMTCs licensed in Florida are supposed to have an additional 22 MMTCs receiving licenses shortly.
Governor DeSantis raised questions about current new laws not regulating where one could use or smoke cannabis. We have to question that. Medical marijuana users in Florida are currently restricted to consumption on private property and out of public view. Easily the legislature and or the OMMU could use that same language and apply it to recreational use. The point is the voters should be deciding whether Florida wants recreational marijuana or not.

Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers
The department is charged with the licensing and regulation of medical marijuana treatment centers (MMTCs).
MMTCs are vertically integrated businesses, and are the only businesses authorized to cultivate, process, and
dispense low-THC cannabis and medical marijuana.
After initial licensure, each MMTC must receive authorization at three stages prior to dispensing low-THC
cannabis or medical marijuana: (1) cultivation authorization, (2) processing authorization, and (3) dispensing
authorization.
MMTCs dispense low-THC cannabis and medical marijuana to qualified patients and caregivers as
recommended by their qualified physician at approved dispensing locations and via delivery. Medical marijuana
is dispensed in milligrams of active ingredient tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and low-THC cannabis is dispensed
in milligrams of active ingredient cannabidiol (CBD).
