Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Festivities Canceled Due to COVID-19 Concerns

MLK

The City of Deerfield Beach and the African American Heritage Board are saddened and disappointed to announce that the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration is canceled due to the COVID-19 Omicron variant currently spreading in our communities and across the nation. This is an incredibly difficult decision, but the safety of our community is our utmost concern, and we will continue to monitor data as we move forward with future event planning and programming.

The City is working to prepare a virtual commemoration of the life and legacy of Dr. King. Please be on the lookout for that announcement. Additionally, the City is already in discussion about paying a special tribute to Dr. King during the Black Heritage Banquet, currently scheduled for Saturday, February 26, 2022. Announcements will be forthcoming.

The City appreciates the community’s patience and understanding as we navigate these uncertain times. Like many of you, the City hopes that 2022 will become more hopeful and healthy and that we are free to celebrate these meaningful and important holidays again soon.
