City Partners with Marine Industries Association to Host 44th Annual Waterway Cleanup
DEERFIELD BEACH, FL – The City of Deerfield Beach is partnering with the Marine Industries Association of South Florida to host the 44th annual Broward County Waterway Cleanup. Because participant safety is a top priority, some changes have been made to minimize risk and ensure a safe and enjoyable event.
Instead of the traditional one-day event, this year’s Waterway Cleanup will kick-off on March 6 and run each weekend throughout the month of March, taking place at more than 30 official locations across Broward County. This includes the Deerfield Beach location at Pioneer Park, 217 NE 5 Ave.
All cleanup volunteers must register online at www.waterwaycleanup.org before participating in any cleanup activities. Registration includes an official event t-shirt, trash bags, and disposable gloves. These items will be available for collection on Thursday March 4 or Friday March 5 at one of the two following locations:
·     Marine Industries Association, 221 SW 3rd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, 33312
·     Coconut Creek Community Center, 1100 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, 33063
All cleanup activity will be collected and reported using Ocean Conservancy’s Clean Swell app on any mobile device. Event participants can download the free app from the App Store or Google Play, then create an account to record clean-up activities.
Students are encouraged to participate and can earn Community Service Hours for their efforts. Each cleanup day that a student completes will earn them four community service hours.
For additional information about the Broward County Waterway Cleanup, call the Department of Sustainable Management at (954) 480-4391 or visit www.waterwaycleanup.org to register.
