Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives with the Traffic Homicide Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal weekend crash. On Sunday, a 47-year-old man who was speeding on a Deerfield Beach street was killed when he lost control of his Nissan Maxima.
Around 3:30 a.m. Dec. 16, David Ramirez was driving the Nissan east on West Hillsboro Boulevard approaching the 2200 block when the driver’s side tires struck the curb of a raised median. The 2017 car entered the median and collided with a tree.
BSO Deerfield Beach deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Ramirez, of Deerfield Beach, was pronounced dead by fire rescue.
THI detectives believe he was traveling nearly double the posted speed limit of 45 mph and that the excessive speed is likely the primary cause of the crash. Impairment is a possible contributing factor, detectives said. Their investigation continues.
Anyone with further information is asked to contact BSO’s THI Det. Michael Wiley at 954-321-4840.
