MAN SHOT AFTER ATTACKING  DEPUTIES WITH MACHETE

An encounter with Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and a man with a machete ended in deputies using deadly force Thursday morning in Oakland Park.

Shortly before 7 a.m., BSO deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 300 block of Northeast 38th Street. On scene, deputies located an adult male armed with a machete. At some point during this encounter the subject aggressively attacked the deputies with the machete and a deputy-involved shooting occurred. No deputies were injured in the attack.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue immediately transported the subject, Deavon Mc Gauley, to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

FDLE is investigating the circumstances of the deputy-involved shooting. BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting, and BSO’s Internal Affairs Unit is conducting an administrative review of the incident.

As per BSO policy, the two deputies who fired their weapons have been placed on administrative assignment pending further investigation.
