Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach, FL-Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony has Broward County Mayor and Commissioner contemplating yanking the 911 calling system from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
At a Tuesday meeting, no one from BSO showed up no representative, no Sheriff. Tony County Commissioner Michael Udine said, “A stunning lack of leadership. This is a horrible way to operate. It’s disrespectful to the public.”
County Commissioner Geller said, “I honestly believe there is no amount of money we could give to the Sheriff that would satisfy him”
Sheriff Tony is having a rough year or so after losing Pembroke Park for contract services. Then our city of Deerfield Beach voted on January 20,2026 after Tony unilaterally canceled Deerfield Beach’s contract for Police and fire services to go on our own. As we write this, Deerfield Beach is reforming the Deerfield Beach Police Department and Deerfield Beach Fire Rescue.
Last week, as we reported, BSO and Sheriff Tony lost the contract for Fire rescue services in Broward County.As of 2028, Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue will become Broward County Fire Rescue, with the Broward Mayor and Broward County Commissioners in charge.
All those naysayers who were pro BSO and thought Deerfield Beach should stay with a Sheriff who does not honor contracts.
It certainly appears that Deerfield Beach Mayor Drosky and 3 commissioners voted the right way to part ways with BSO, and specifically Sheriff Tony.
