Deerfield-News. com-Deerfield Beach, FL- As the city of Deerfield Beach is hard at work transitioning from BSO to our own Police and Fire departments, they are recruiting. Below is information from the City of Deerfield Beach if you would like to apply for our Police Department.

Building Our Police Department

The Deerfield Beach City Commission voted in January to end its law enforcement contract with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and transition to its own municipal police department.

The transition is underway as the city builds the new department, establishes operations, recruits and hires personnel, and prepares the infrastructure and resources needed to provide high-quality law enforcement services to the community.

Service Will Continue

During the transition, the Broward Sheriff’s Office will continue providing law enforcement services to Deerfield Beach.

There will be no interruption of service.

Anticipated Launch

The city anticipates that the Deerfield Beach Police Department will begin operations in fall 2027.

Florida Retirement System (FRS)

Deerfield Beach Police Department employees will participate in the Florida Retirement System (FRS).

Eligible employees will receive retirement benefits through FRS as part of the city’s comprehensive benefits package.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 19 years of age or older
  • United States citizen
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution
  • Valid Florida driver’s license
    • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record, as required for the position.
  • Good moral character
    • Must meet applicable Florida law enforcement employment standards.
  • Clear background and drug screenings
    • Successful completion of background investigation, fingerprinting, and drug screening.
  • Pass Basic Abilities Test (BAT)
    • Successful completion required, unless legally exempt or otherwise qualified for an applicable exemption.
  • Physical fitness and swim assessment
    • Successful completion of the agency-required physical fitness and swim assessment.
  • Medical and psychological assessments
    • Successful completion of required medical and psychological examinations.
  • Florida law enforcement certification
    • Current Florida law enforcement certification or eligibility to obtain certification; must meet all applicable FDLE/CJSTC requirements.

Additional position requirements, such as certifications, licenses, testing, experience and physical ability requirements, may vary by position.
