DETECTIVES INVESTIGATE FATAL DEERFIELD BEACH SHOOTING

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal shooting in Deerfield Beach.

At approximately 10:14 p.m., on Wed., August 19. BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to a shooting call in the 200 block of Southwest First Terrace in Deerfield Beach. On scene, deputies located an adult male inside an apartment suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced the male deceased on scene.

BSO’s Crime Scene and Homicide units responded to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. According to detectives, preliminary investigation reveals that the adult male, Maurice Wright Jr. and the shooter, an adult female, were known to each other. The female told detectives that she had to defend herself from a physical attack during the incident, and she told them the shooting was in self-defense.

According to investigators, the shooter remained on scene, was detained for questioning, and later released. Detectives say upon completion of their investigation, the case will be presented to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office for review.
