Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach, FL-County after county, city after city seems to be installing “Flock” cameras.

While Deerfield-News is in favor of governmental use of cameras to catch speeders and possibly more serious criminals, cameras play an important part in today’s law enforcement and are a plus when used for good purposes. Do not speed in school zones. Why is that a problem? Know that if you do, you will receive a well-deserved citation.

Just in the last few weeks, there have been incidents where police used videos from Flock cameras to help in making arrests of dangerous felons. When used as intended to catch speeders and possibly to catch felons that were caught by these cameras, it is a good thing.

Also, in the past few weeks, law enforcement officers in different jurisdictions used the information received from Flock cameras to do things law enforcement officers should not be doing. In one case, an officer stalked a woman he found attractive, used the information he took from the Flock cameras, and made a traffic stop hoping to pick up this young lady he found attractive.

There have been several instances of Flock camera information being used for unintended purposes and violating citizens’ rights.

Who has access to these cameras and for what purpose they are viewing video is a concern. A police officer, a deputy, or any official who has access to these cameras needs to be checked and controlled.

What do you think about the use of cameras by the government?

  1. Camera use should be explicitly obvious. Having camera’s issue tickets during non-school hours without proper notification is wrong. Why don’t we make school zones lights flash during school hours? How much attention do you think people would pay then? It is a money grab!

  2. Meanwhile people are getting citations just because they are the owner of a car. Case when a mechanic road tests your vehicle, he fails to stop at that right hand turn red light,
It can also be the soon to be ex wife wishing to bring maximum pain to the soon to be ex husband. When an officer witnesses the violation, pulls the car over and verifies the driver with identification ..that is the correct way.
Otherwise all I can say to those who chose this system, beware where you bring your cars for service.
