Deerfield-News. Deerfield Beach, FL-Deerfield Beach voters will have an important referendum in November to vote on. Basically, it will move city elections to even years and in November. This referendum would also extend the terms of our elected officials, the Mayor and commissioners, by 20 months.
Deerfield News has long been a proponent of voting on national election day for city officials. This will bring the number of voters participating way up. Deerfield Beach city elections have terrible turnouts by percentage of registered voters v those who vote in national elections versus March city elections. A city of our size should have the most voters voting for our elected officials, not the least. November voting on National Election Day is long overdue.

Charter Amendment Ordinance
This Ordinance contains proposed text amendments to the City of Deerfield Beach Charter. The
Ordinance approves the amendments subject to voter approval, calls for a referendum election on
the proposed amendments to the City Charter to be held on November 3, 2026, provides for the
proposed Charter Amendments to be considered by the qualified electors of the City of Deerfield
Beach at the referendum election, and provides for requisite ballot language and related matters
regarding the following proposed Charter Amendments, which are further described in the
Ordinance:
A Clarification and Update of City Charter.
B. Description of the City Corporate Limits Update.
C. Two Year Residency Requirement for Candidates for Mayor or City Commissioner.
D. Change Municipal Election Dates to November of Even-Numbered Years and Transition of
Commission Terms.
E. Removal of Referendum Election Requirement for the Sale, Transfer, or Lease of City-Owned
Property.
F. Charter Review Board to Convene Every Ten Years.
G. Amending Charter Section 11.01 Beach Area Development Regulations.
H. Amending Charter Section 11.02 Regarding Main Beach Parking Area Restrictions.
I. Four-Fifths Vote for Transition of Police or Fire Services.

Upon adoption of the Ordinance, the proposed Charter amendments will be placed on the November
3, 2026 General Election ballot for consideration by the qualified electors of the City of Deerfield
Beach. The proposed Charter amendments shall become effective only if the majority of the qualified
electors voting on the specific Charter amendment vote for its adoption.
