The “Emotional Support” Defense: A Masterclass in Courtroom Fiction

TL;DR: Accordingly, as of the filing of this Motion, Mr. Coddington remains
without a meaningful bond set on the felony counts. Based on information
currently available to undersigned counsel, Mr. Coddington was involved in a
serious motor vehicle accident that appears to have stemmed from significant
mental health issues.

Mr. Coddington was severely injured and transported to North Broward Medical Center. Undersigned counsel has been advised that Mr. Coddington is presently in the tracheotomy ICU and is sedated.

Due to his medical condition, Mr. Coddington is not in a position to meaningfully communicate with counsel, appear in court in the ordinary manner, assist in his defense, or personally address conditions of release.

It appears that Mr. Coddington was booked in absentia because of his hospitalization and critical medical condition. The undersigned is without knowledge as to how his case has a case number and Judge.

If there is one thing a forensic regulatory audit teaches you, it’s that the math has to add up. Right now, in Broward County Case No. 26-6788CF10A, the defense’s math is entirely fictional.

Attorney Russell J. Williams is attempting to perform legal alchemy in front of Judge Ledee. The defense’s June 9th Motion to Set Bond asks the court to look at a six-count, multi-felony disaster and see a tragic victim of “significant mental health issues”.

Let’s look at the actual receipts, strictly by the docket, zero defamation required.

The Chemistry of a “Breakdown”

According to the State of Florida, Cory Coddington’s alleged mental health crisis involved an incredibly specific, highly illegal pharmacy.

  • Count 2: Possession of More Than 10 grams MDMA, a first-degree felony.

Let’s be crystal clear: ten grams of Molly is not an FDA-approved coping mechanism. It is a trafficking weight. A severe anxiety attack might explain why you yelled at a barista; it does not organically generate a cartel-level party bag in your pocket.

The GTA Therapy Session

But the self-medication didn’t stop there. According to the charging documents, this alleged psychological break also featured a full-contact, Grand Theft Auto-style triathlon:

  • Count 1: Carjacking Without Firearm, a first-degree felony.
  • Count 3: Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a third-degree felony.
  • Count 4: Resisting Officer/Obstructing Without Violence, a third-degree felony.
  • Count 6: Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving, a traffic offense.

If only Cory had remembered to bring his certified Emotional Support Dog to the carjacking, this whole misunderstanding might have been de-escalated. Instead, after spectacularly wrecking his ride, Cory is currently parked in the North Broward Medical Center’s tracheotomy ICU, sedated and isolated. He is effectively chained to a hospital bed, sucking on an emotional support dildo, while his lawyer throws blind Hail Marys at the bench.

Feel bad for him?
Don’t. Fuck him.
Karma came to get its tab paid.

You have absolutely no idea the sheer collateral damage those fuckwads inflicted on my family. You didn’t see the toll it took on my father’s face, and you certainly haven’t walked a single inch in my shoes. Worse, plenty of you—yes, you—actively treated it like a spectator sport, gleefully laughing at the targeted, intentional suffering directed our way.

Flying Blind Without the Paperwork

The true comedic gold in Williams’s filing is buried in paragraph eight: the defense doesn’t even have the police reports or probable cause affidavits yet.

They are entirely in the dark. Williams is literally asking the judge to set a reasonable bond for a guy facing two first-degree felonies while openly admitting he has no idea what the cops actually caught on body cam. It is a bold, strategy to lean entirely on a mental health defense before you even know whose car your client allegedly stole or who he assaulted with a deadly weapon.

Dr. Phil isn’t walking through that courtroom door to save him. The docket is the docket, and the state’s receipts are heavy.
