Deerfield-News.com-Deerfield Beach, FL-OPINION-In the ongoing saga of BSO Sheriff Gregory Tony unilaterally canceling the Deerfield Beach police and fire services contract with the city, effective 9-30-2025.

Sheriff Tony posted a statement to BSO’s website, which is below, stating that the Police Unions held a vote of no confidence in Deerfield Beach City Manager and former BSO Captain Rodney Brimlow.

The City of Deerfield Beach issued a statement yesterday, which we published, fully supporting City Manager Rodney Brimlow, a former BSO Captain.

Deerfield-News.com has contacted BSO Public Information Officer Gerdy St. Louis, as it is after hours and a weekend now, and asked for a statement about this issue from Veda Coleman Wright, BSO Public Information Office’s Director.

PIO Number: 25-8-11

Date: Aug. 14, 2025

I stand in solidarity with the members of our public safety unions in their recent letter expressing a vote of no confidence in City Manager Rodney Brimlow. Their collective action reflects deep concerns regarding the handling of critical budget negotiations that directly impact the safety and well-being of Broward Sheriff’s Office personnel and the residents and visitors we serve in Deerfield Beach.
Our deputies and civilian staff work tirelessly under difficult and sometimes dangerous conditions. They deserve a budget that reflects the demands of their roles and equal competitive salaries (based on an independent industry salary study) to retain them. One of the proposals our team put forth would provide the city with approximately a $900,000 savings. Unfortunately, the city manager’s misinformation, false information or incomplete information to the City Commission during this budget process has led to an unacceptable level of uncertainty for BSO staff and the Deerfield Beach community.
I encourage city leadership to listen to the voices of our public servants and work toward a resolution that prioritizes safety, fairness and transparency. My office remains committed to the mission of protecting our community, and I will continue to advocate for the resources and support our personnel need to do their jobs effectively.

The union Broward FOP says the following-

Again, we urge all Deerfield Beach residents to contact Mayor Drosky and your commissioners to vote to form a Deerfield Beach Police Department and Fire Rescue Department again, and bring it home to Deerfield Beach.

One of the most essential things in having everything local and in-house will be that not only will officers and firefighters be or become familiar with every location in our city which, when seconds count and are life or death, it will also bring the 911 dispatchers back home so you will not have to repeat what city Deerfield Beach, Deerfield Beach when calling 911 as I have had to do.
