Deerfield-News. com-Deerfield Beach, FL-I am not sure why two BSO deputies would lie to their”Command Staff, “but they have. As of this post, we are waiting for the incident report and now the deputy’s body camera video for that domestic incident in Newport P in Century Village. This led to our story of 2 marked patrol cars driven by BSO deputies leaving a call and running the stop sign at West Drive and Newport in Century Village. I requested audio of my call to the non-emergency number for BSO located I Fort Lauderdale which was received. But I have not been able to open it.
I spoke with 2 dispatchers who gave me badge numbers that are in our original post.
Here is our latest public records request about what started as a possible in-progress burglary call at Newport Pin Century Village, Deerfield Beach.
Two BSO deputies whose names and badge numbers have not been given to me, yet. They were leaving that call, which turned out to be a domestic incident. We have requested that report as well now.

In what became a somewhat heated conversation with BSO’s Director of Public Information Office, Veda Coleman Wright, and me.
I was trying to explain to Veda what I saw, which was two still unnamed deputies running the stop sign at Newport Drive and West Drive. They go through the gate and do not stop at the traffic light on West Drive and Powerline Road.
Repositioning, “bullshit”.They were leaving the completed call at Newport P, where dispatched to. I have seen deputies at this building multiple times with multiple units, sometimes three or four cars before. I have witnessed people being arrested and put in the back of deputies’ patrol cars at this building. The distance between where this call was and where I saw the two deputies there was no covert secret mission or perimeter being set up. No, they were just leaving a call and blew throughthe stop sign, nothing more,e nothing less.
When those deputies passed me, I had just turned left from West Drive after stopping at the stop sign. I got a good look at one deputy who had a beard. I was surprised that they just turned left, both of them, without stopping.i
IT WAS JUST A RANDOM ENCOUNTER DURING A WEEK OF VIDEOING AT THAT SAME 3-WAY STOP THAT NO ONE STOPS AT!
On my phone call today, Veda Coleman Wright told me I do not know what I saw. I was assuming that… Howard Levy was assuming that those deputies’ call was over, but they again “Were Repositioning”.
There was no special operation going on here, no tactical or investigative, top-secret mission; it turned out to be a domestic issue. At that stop sign, I saw what I saw, which she disagreed with. The only exception, in my opinion, is if that call was still active; they cannot, under any circumstances, do what they did, as they could have T-boned anyone who could have been behind me when I turned left. They were finished with the call at Newport P, and they blew the stop sign at the intersection of Newport Drive and West Drive.
They had no light and no sirens, and no Veda; they were not repositioning. Those two deputies were lying when they told “Command Staff” they did not run the stop sign, which is at least 600-700 yards from their call at Newport P in Century Village.
BSO’s response is below. It is a narrative from Veda Coleman Wright, the Director of the Public Information Office.
We have been posting our “Traffic Tuesday” and “Traffic Thursday” videos to bring attention to the lack of BSO enforcement and the lack of “Drivers Stopping” at the very same stop sign on West Drive and Newport Drive.
No matter what, the deputies who are still unnamed told their command they are lying. They were “not repositioning” their call at Newport P. They were done with their call and leaving Century Village.
If they “were repositioning”, they were doing so outside of Century Village, as the traffic light they blew is after the stop sign they blew. After completing their call at Newport P.
This particular building has had numerous BSO visits in just the last few months. We will now play “the reindeer games” that BSO in Fort Lauderdale wants us to. I will make 2 more record requests, one for the report, which I have already done, and now for the deputy’s body camera video of that call.
Below is the BSO official response received from Veda Coleman Wright-The Director of Public Information Office in downtown Fort Lauderdale, another reason why we need to say “NO TO BSO” and have a Deerfield Beach Police Department, again.
To Captain Hoffstein, sir, I know what I saw, and I saw two deputies who are still unnamed, even though I requested that information already. Captain, you need to personally talk to these two deputies. What could have been a simple “My Bad” from them has now turned into another story that did not need to be written.
To Veda, your statement about see something, say something is exactly what I did. I can not help that at a random time at the exact spot where I have video of dozens of stop sign runners and have been writing, posting, videoing, and calling on my elected officials to do something about it before someone is seriously hurt or worse. Only a matter of time before a pedestrian, or cyclist e-scooter driver, or a car will collide at this particular intersection.
During my videoing, I have been given the finger by a county bus driver, a Century Village Security guard, leaving work gave me the finger because he thought I was videoing him. I was standing on public property for 40 minutes before he was leaving work.
The firefighters in Station 66 saw me. I was not doing anything wrong; I was on a sidewalk in front of Station 66 on Powerline and West Drive. I had a guy in a pickup truck get out and approach quickly and yelling at me me calling me a creep, and I told him I was filming red light runners and speeders. I told him I was with Deerfield News and doing a story, and I have a PressPlate on my dashboard. He cursed me and again called me a creep.
I called the non-emergency number, spoke to 2 people, both of whom I gave badge numbers for in my original post. My situation and encounter with the two yes unnamed deputies was random. I saw them run the stop sign at Newport Drive and West Drive. I do not have to be a sworn deputy or appointed one to know they were leaving the call. My knowledge of the geography in the village of 50-plus years assures me that what I wrote and told you is what happened. Look at my Facebook or YouTube video; it speaks for itself. The distance between where they finished their call and where they ran the stop sign and then the light, is fairly significant, as evidenced by my videos.
In any case, to our readers who have been following our posts since Sheriff Tony has cancelled our contract, this is just one more reason to make Captain Hoffstein Chief of Deerfield Beach Police. Move the 911 dispatchers back to Deerfield Beach so they know the call they are receiving is from Deerfield Beach, have our own public information officers who are also familiar with the city. Deerfield Beach, it is time to sever our ties forever with Sheriff Tony and BSO permanently.
WE ALSO NEED TO GO BACK TO THE DAYS WHEN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT LOBBY IS OPEN 24 HOURS A DAY.
Deerfield Beach BSO lobby is not open to the public 24 hours a day, and that needs to change.
Why anyone would have a police department lobby that is not open 24 hours a day is beyond me, but we do.
Whatever those deputies told the “Command Staff” is a lie. They should just tell the truth; they both ran a stop sign and subsequently did not stop at the corner of West Drive and Powerline Road. Now I know it was in the early AM, but stop signs are still stop signs even for BSO deputies, and Traffic lights are still traffic lights. Deputies are not exempt from the law. They should be examples of how to obey the traffic laws. The Sheriff’s office should be ashamed to put out a narrative insinuating I was not accurate in what I saw and reported. My “Context” was spot on, those two deputies ran a stop sign and have now lied about it.
How can we ever expect residents and visitors of CVE to get in compliance with stopping at that very same corner if deputies do not? It is after the call when they left Newport P, which is on a straight away to the corner of Newport Drive and West Drive, where they ran the stop sign and could have hit and injured someone.
REPOSITIONING MY ASS, THEY BLEW A STOP SIGN AND HAD A DUTY TO STOP AT IT. THEY THEN DID NOT STOP AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT ON WEST DRIVE AND POWERLINE ROAD.
OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO THE RECORDS REQUEST I MADE
Good day, Howie.
After reading your article on July 20, 2025, TWO DEERFIELD BEACH DEPUTIES RUN TWO STOP SIGNS, I shared it with command staff in Deerfield Beach. I know how important it is to you to provide information to your readers, so I wanted to take a moment to provide you with accurate information within the context of what occurred. Hopefully, after reading below you will better understand that what you saw were deputies responding to or repositioning their vehicles during an active scene investigation.
Shortly before 3 a.m., several Broward Sheriff’s Office vehicles entering the Century Village complex at 250 Newport P. They were responding to a report of a possible in-progress burglary. The deputies arrived without their emergency equipment activated. This silent approach is consistent with situations like this one to protect the public and our personnel, minimize the presence of the deputies and lessen the chance of suspects leaving the area before they can be taken into custody.
During the investigation, deputies made contact with the potential suspect, confirmed his identity, and eventually determined he was a temporary guest authorized by the landlord.
After reviewing what was initially believed to be an active and potentially dangerous felony, Deerfield Beach District command staff, determined the deputies coordinated a professional response. The deputies acted swiftly, appropriately, and in accordance with policy in response to a serious call for service.
We understand that law enforcement actions can occasionally raise questions when viewed without full context. We encourage residents and visitors to continue to call in suspicious activity. While the report of this in-progress burglary was unfounded, the next “see-something-say-something” call may end with an arrest that saves a life or protects someone’s property. We thank you and the public for their engagement, and we reaffirm our commitment to transparency, accountability, and the continued safety of the communities we serve.
Thank you for your time. Have a great rest of the week.
Warmest regards,

Publisher’s note to BSO PIOs-
Veda, you know I have never had any issues with BSO PIOs.
Until I did my stories about Sheriff Tony and his cancellation of Deerfield Beach’s contract for services. I have no bones to pick with any of your staff or you. Just in this time and place, as a result of Sheriff Tony’s decision to terminate services, I once again am disappointed in the fact that two sworn police officers have lied to the command staff, again, a truthful “MY BAD” stating they ran the stops and subsequently the traffic light. Certainly would have been the right thing to do.
There was no secret mission going or repositioning that is BULLSHIT. They were finished with their call. Your narrative below makes my point, and anyone who understands where Newport P is and where the stop sign the deputies ran past would understand that. I do not need to post a map, but you or any reader can Google it and see what I wrote, and I am writing the facts.
DEPUTIES MUST OBEY TRAFFIC LAWS WHEN THEY ARE LEAVING A CALL. YES, THEY HAVE “A DUTY” TO STOP AT THE STOP SIGN AT NEWPORT AND WEST DRIVE, OR THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD LIGHTS AND SIRENS ON IF THEY WERE ON THEIR WAY TO ANOTHER EMERGENCY CALL!
I CALL BULLSHIT ON WHAT THE DEPUTIES TOLD THE COMMAND STAFF!
In fact, your narrative above makes it clear what happened on the call.
It is after the call when they left Newport P, which is on a straight away to the corner of Newport Drive and West Drive, where they ran the stop sign and could have hit and injured someone.
