Description of Incident:
Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response (V.I.P.E.R) and the Fort Lauderdale Gun Intelligence Unit (GIU) have arrested a 17-year-old male in connection to the shooting that left two people injured in Pompano Beach early this month.
Shortly after 9:44 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 5, BSO Pompano Beach District deputies, while at the football game at Blanche Ely High School, responded to a report of shots fired near the area. Deputies quickly established a perimeter in search of the shooter.
On scene, deputies located one victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies immediately provided life-saving measures. Emergency personnel transported that victim to a local hospital with injuries listed as not life-threatening. BSO Violent Crimes Unit detectives responded to investigate.
During their investigation detectives later learned Lauderhill Fire Rescue transported Chris Williams, a second individual with a gunshot wound, to a local hospital. Williams’ injuries were also listed as not life-threatening.
The preliminary investigation revealed the shooting occurred in an area near the school not at the game. Detectives learned there is no indication that the shooting is connected to the school.
Detectives continued working the case and through investigative methods, including a helpful Crime Stoppers tip, investigators were able to identify the suspect as Nicolas Yves Achille.
Last Friday night investigators served an arrest warrant in Fort Lauderdale and took Achille into custody. Achille was processed at the Juvenile Assessment Center on two counts of attempted murder in the first degree.
