Deefrield-News. com-Deerfield Beach, Fl-A Broward County jury found former Deputy Scot Peterson “not guilty” on all 11 counts. Former  BSO Deputy Scot Peterson according to the jury did not have an obligation to confront the shooter.

Peterson was facing 11 charges: seven counts of child neglect, three counts of culpable negligence, and one count of perjury.

Peterson was the school resource officer on duty in 2018 when 17 were murdered at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

This is the first case of its kind where a sworn police officer was charged for his inaction.

Assistant State Attorney Steven Klinger argued that Peterson had neglected his duty and training received by waiting outside of the school building, where the gunman entered and began firing his weapon.

As the Judge was reading the verdicts both Peterson and his attorney Mark Eiglarsh broke down in tears.
