Description of Incident:
Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a crash that killed an adult male in Pompano Beach Tuesday night.
The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 9:39 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, a 17-year-old male was traveling in a silver 2003 Toyota Corolla northbound on Northeast Third Avenue. At the same time, an adult male was traveling on a red 2020 Zhejiang-Jaijue JJ150-T scooter in the southbound lanes of Northeast Third Avenue.
At some point, detectives say the Toyota collided with the scooter and left the roadway. The vehicle then struck a concrete overhead light pole, which fell on top of a bus bench awning. The crash caused the driver of the scooter to depart from the motor vehicle and come to a final rest in the roadway. The scooter continued toward the east side of the northbound shoulder, where it was located.
BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to the scene, and both drivers were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The scooter’s driver was later pronounced deceased due to the injuries sustained in the crash.
The investigation continues.
