Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a 33-year-old man in Pompano Beach.

According to investigators, Johnnie Young was traveling eastbound in a 2010 Dodge Charger sedan on West McNab Road, approaching the intersection of South Dixie Highway, when the Charger he was in proceeded straight through the intersection and off the roadway. The vehicle then struck a Florida East Coast Railway system gravel brim support and became airborne. The sedan cleared both sets of train tracks, landed on the east side of the tracks, and began to rotate and tumble before striking a tree and coming to a final rest.

BSO deputies responded to investigate. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue also responded, and Young was pronounced deceased on scene by paramedics.

Detectives say excessive speed is considered a contributing factor to the crash. The investigation continues.
