The BSO Public Information Office is currently working a developing incident regarding a /an investigation located at: 1631 S.W. 40th Terrace, unincorporated Broward County.
Public Information Officer Carey Codd is currently gathering the details. Here’s what we know so far:
At approximately 6:18 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, Broward Regional Communications received a medical call regarding multiple individuals having difficulty breathing at 1631 S.W. 40th Terrace in unincorporated Broward County. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. A total of four adult males, ages 39, 30, 28 and 26, were transported to an area hospital. At this time, three of the individuals have been released, and one remains hospitalized. On scene, a hazardous materials crew responded and appropriate precautionary measures were taken once it was learned that fentanyl may have been involved. At this time, the preliminary investigation reveals that detectives discovered drug residue on scene. The residue was tested and it was determined to be fentanyl. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Fentanyl is a dangerous and, potentially, deadly synthetic opioid that is up to 100 times stronger than morphine. In its illegal form, it is often added to other street drugs, including cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine, due to its potent effects. It is also often made into pills that closely resemble prescription opioids.
BSO has previously issued warnings on fentanyl, including in the link below:
