Description of Incident:
A 73-year-old man is dead following a crash in Pompano Beach, and Broward Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide detectives are investigating the cause of the crash.
At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, investigators say William Walsh was driving a 2019 Toyota Highlander SUV southbound on Federal Highway and was stopped in the outside thru lane for the traffic signal at Northeast 14th Street. After the traffic signal turned green, Walsh headed southbound where detectives believe he sideswiped a 2009 BMW 750i sedan driven by Robert Blanchard. Walsh then veered off the road and into a metal fence surrounding the golf course.
Witnesses advised detectives that it appeared Walsh was having a medical event prior to accelerating through the intersection.
Walsh was transported to the Broward Health Imperial Point where he was pronounced deceased the morning of August 20. Blanchard did not report any injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
