Deerfield-News. com-Deerfield Beach, Fl-As we wind down from national elections, city elections are around the corner. Deerfield Beach elections in March are a form of voter suppression. Why would a city want fewer voters to turn out than they do in a general election held on Election Day? Deerfield Beach has commissioners who have been elected with 500 and 600 and 700 votes.
Holding elections in March for city officials is tantamount to voter suppression. In a city of 80,000 to have 600 voters or 700 voters determine who runs our city is absurd. Charging the residents of Deerfield Beach to hold March elections is also absurd. Not voting on Election Day keeps the number of voters down and is voter suppression. No one at city hall seems to have a good answer as to why we vote in March at one time maybe it was practical, today that is no longer the case let the people vote on election day.
