- Broward County is going to form a civilian police review board. The new oversight board will track problem-prone officers and give its opinion on polices. County commissioners are expected to approve the board this month. Some in the community are not happy with this and see it as an affront on policing.
- Broward County Commissioner Barbara Sharief said” it will not be a punitive board” but a “liaison to police to communicate the community’s wants and desires to change things”.
- Still, there are citizens that see this as support of BLM and this upsets them. Petitions have been floating around Facebook this week for citizens to urge their Commissioner to halt this project.
- The idea for this board has come about as a result of the killing of George Floyd which started protest nationwide against police brutality.
